Pancakes, Bears and Booze
Hello world!
It has been a hot minute! In case you don’t follow me over on Instagram (@terribletews) let me tell you what I’ve been up to.
A few weeks ago I participated in the Pancakes & Booze traveling art show, and it was a blast! Previously, I’ve only participated in one other art show, the lovely Sofie Show in Milwaukee, a show where all artists donated their pieces and all of the proceeds went to the Wisconsin Humane Society (an organization super close to my heart and soul!) This was the first time I’d be peddling my art just for me, and just to dive into the collective creative community that surrounds this amazing city. And I was ready!
The timing and luck of me seeing the call for artists was meant to be and I submitted my application. I waited until it was confirmed to tell anyone and then in true to myself form, procrastinated until crunch time. I wavered on what to do, how many pieces to make, how to make them, digital vs. traditional medium - I was all over the place. Until I just trusted the dang process and it all fell into place.
I painted three 3’x3’ stretched canvases with acrylic paints and digitally painted two 2’x3’ posters then had them printed and framed. I went with a bear theme as I really wanted to re-introduce my Breakfast Bears to the world and this seemed to be the perfect opportunity. The color selection was easy (that’s totally my jam) and the level of detail just fell into place.
After the afternoon prep time of self-leveling (my superpower!) hanging and placing title cards I was ready. The night went off without a hitch, surrounded by other local artists, friends and family new and old. I even had the full moon on my side. This night was the kickstart to what’s to come and I couldn’t be more excited for this new journey.
